In 2021 over 20 churches from around the country collaborated to share training and ideas to make their Blessing of the Animals more effective as outreach to new people.  Those churches who most actively participated saw a noticeable, and in some cases dramatic increase in guests to the event.

Please understand that the intention is not simply to have people attend one event.  The intention is to build relationships through which people can grow closer to God.  Very likely that will result in increased attendance and giving, but that is not the goal!  Our goal is to help others.  If we demonstrate God’s love through our outreach, some people will want to be part of our community.

Last year’s efforts provided some good lessons.  We learned about the best schedule for the day (which was not what we thought it would be!), about how to effectively invite people to attend, and how to build relationships after the event. 

Looking back at last year’s efforts our understanding has been reinforced that if our goal is a relationship with new people, which might include Sunday attendance, then collecting contact information and staying in touch is absolutely essential.

The plan for this year is to offer 3 or 4 general Zoom sessions at both 11am or 7pm eastern time.  In addition there will be regular communications to share ideas.  Special videos and/or training Zooms will be scheduled in support of any church with specific issues. (For anyone who has been involved before, please notice the change to 11am to help our west coast friends.)

If you participated last year, this is a great opportunity to expand your team.  If you are new this year, your people will learn about the process of reaching and connecting with new people.

The first session is worth your time if just to learn about the large number of people around you who would like to connect with you, and why they do not.

*Free – Helping people reach out to new people so they learn about God’s love for them is a passion of mine.  Many small churches paid into the retirement fund that keeps me adequately fed.  My expenses for this are funded through my supply work.  If any church or individual would contribute that goes into a separate bank account to help small churches with their expenses.
